Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, is believed to control about 1.1 million BTC mined in 2009–2010 that have never been spent. At today's price that is worth about $92.4 billion, or 5.47% of all bitcoin issued so far. The coins peaked at about $138.8 billion at the all-time high of $126,200 on 6 October 2025.[1][2]
1Satoshi Nakamoto's net worth today
A net-worth figure for Satoshi Nakamoto is a simple product of two numbers: the amount of bitcoin attributed to Satoshi, and the market price of one bitcoin. The first number is an estimate; the second changes every second. This page pulls the price live from public market data and recalculates the result in your browser.
| Estimate | BTC | Value now |
|---|---|---|
| Conservative (lower bound) | 600,000 | $50.4 billion |
| Round-number estimate | 1,000,000 | $84.0 billion |
| Patoshi estimate (central) | 1,100,000 | $92.4 billion |
The central estimate of 1.1 million BTC comes from analysis of the "Patoshi" mining pattern, first described by security researcher Sergio Demian Lerner in 2013.[3] The method and its uncertainties are explained in the Patoshi pattern.

5What if bitcoin goes to $250k, $500k or $1 million?
| BTC price | 600k BTC | 1.0M BTC | 1.1M BTC |
|---|---|---|---|
| $50,000 | $30.0 billion | $50.0 billion | $55.0 billion |
| $75,000 | $45.0 billion | $75.0 billion | $82.5 billion |
| $100,000 | $60.0 billion | $100.0 billion | $110.0 billion |
| $150,000 | $90.0 billion | $150.0 billion | $165.0 billion |
| $250,000 | $150.0 billion | $250.0 billion | $275.0 billion |
| $500,000 | $300.0 billion | $500.0 billion | $550.0 billion |
| $1,000,000 | $600.0 billion | $1.00 trillion | $1.10 trillion |
Because the coins are fixed in number, every $10,000 move in the bitcoin price changes Satoshi's paper wealth by about $11 billion. At roughly $910,000 per BTC, 1.1 million BTC would cross $1 trillion.
6How large is Satoshi's stake?
- Bitcoin issued so far
- 20,095,628 BTC
- Current block height
- 970,600
- Satoshi's share of issued supply
- 5.47%
- Share of the 21 million cap
- 5.24%
- Still to be mined
- 904,372 BTC
Issued supply is computed exactly from the live block height using Bitcoin's issuance schedule (50 BTC per block, halving every 210,000 blocks). The 50 BTC genesis reward is included in the protocol total even though it can never be spent. A stake of about one-twentieth of all bitcoin makes Satoshi the largest single holder by a wide margin; for comparison, the largest corporate treasury and the largest spot ETFs each hold well under a million BTC.
7Why has Satoshi never sold?
Nobody knows. The coins have sat untouched for over fifteen years. Common explanations include: the keys were deliberately destroyed or lost; Satoshi died (Hal Finney, a leading candidate, died in 2014); or Satoshi chooses not to move them because doing so would reveal activity, move markets and invite attempts at identification. Any movement of a known Patoshi coin would be detected within minutes by public blockchain monitors.[5]
The coins are also illiquid in practice: selling even a fraction would likely depress the price and could expose the seller's identity through exchange compliance checks. A headline net-worth figure is therefore a mark-to-market value, not a realizable one.
8Frequently asked questions
How much is Satoshi Nakamoto worth?
Satoshi Nakamoto's estimated net worth is about $92.4 billion, based on roughly 1.1 million BTC that have never moved since 2009–2010, multiplied by the current bitcoin price ($84,000). The figure moves one-for-one with the BTC price.
How many bitcoins does Satoshi Nakamoto have?
The most widely cited estimate is about 1.1 million BTC, mined in roughly 22,000 blocks during Bitcoin's first year and a half and identified through the "Patoshi pattern". Independent researchers give a plausible range of about 600,000 to 1.1 million BTC.
What is Satoshi Nakamoto's wallet address?
There is no single Satoshi wallet. The best-known address is the Genesis address 1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa, which received the first 50 BTC block reward (unspendable by design). Satoshi's other coins sit in about 22,000 separate early outputs, most of them pay-to-public-key outputs without a conventional address. See the address list.
Has Satoshi Nakamoto ever sold bitcoin?
No sale has ever been observed. Apart from a handful of test transactions in January 2009, including 10 BTC sent to Hal Finney in block 170, the coins attributed to Satoshi have never moved on-chain.
What would Satoshi be worth if bitcoin reached $1 million?
At $1,000,000 per BTC, 1.1 million BTC would be worth $1.1 trillion — more than any individual fortune ever recorded on public rich lists.
Is Satoshi Nakamoto the richest person in the world?
Not at current prices. At about $92.4 billion, Satoshi would rank among the wealthiest people alive but below the largest technology fortunes. Satoshi is also not listed by Forbes or Bloomberg because the person or group has never been identified and the coins have never been verified as belonging to one owner.
Why do estimates of Satoshi's bitcoin differ?
Ownership is inferred, not proven. Researchers attribute blocks to Satoshi using statistical patterns in early block data (ExtraNonce, timestamps, nonce ranges). Different attribution thresholds give different totals, which is why the range runs from roughly 600,000 to 1.1 million BTC.
Could Satoshi's bitcoin be stolen by a quantum computer?
Most of Satoshi's coins are held in early pay-to-public-key outputs, whose public keys are already visible on-chain. A sufficiently large fault-tolerant quantum computer could in theory derive the private keys. No such machine exists today, and proposals for migrating or freezing quantum-vulnerable coins are actively debated by Bitcoin developers.
